Partnerships that move science from discovery to impact.
Helikon Labs helps universities and industry build high-impact R&D partnerships. We combine strategic consulting with an AI-powered collaboration platform to reduce friction, accelerate discovery, and scale innovations to market.
Why Helikon Labs
The mountain where the Muses gathered
Helikon Labs takes its name from Mount Helikon, a mountain in Boeotia, central Greece, that held deep significance in the ancient world as the sacred home of the Muses: the nine goddesses who presided over the arts, sciences, and every form of intellectual inquiry. According to Hesiod's Theogony (c. 700 BCE), the Muses appeared to him while he was shepherding on the slopes of Helikon, breathed into him a divine voice, and inspired him to compose his account of the origins of the gods. Two sacred springs flowed on the mountain, the Hippocrene (said to have burst from the rock when the winged horse Pegasus struck it with his hoof) and the Aganippe, both believed to grant inspiration to those who drank from their waters.
Mount Helikon was not an oracle like Delphi. It was something arguably more relevant to the work Helikon Labs does today: a place of creative convergence. The Mouseia, a festival held every four years in the Valley of the Muses at the mountain's eastern foot, drew poets, musicians, and scholars from across the Greek world to share knowledge, compete in the arts, and celebrate where different disciplines meet. The festival transcended the political divisions of individual city-states, fostering a collective identity around shared intellectual values. That resonates with our work: creating the conditions for knowledge to flow between university and industry, building shared frameworks across institutional boundaries, and helping breakthrough research find its path to real-world impact.
The four phases of the Helikon Method (Match, Unite, Steward, Evaluate) are named to echo the four principal Muses of epic, history, astronomy, and lyric. The mnemonic is MUSE.

Andrew T. Flowers, MBA
Founder & CEO
Practitioner-scholar in university-industry R&D partnerships with 17+ years of R&D portfolio management. Most recently led multi-million-dollar R&D portfolios at PPG Industries across automotive, aerospace, chemicals, energy, and advanced materials.
At PPG, Andrew led cross-functional innovation teams, identified market opportunities, optimized R&D investments, and translated scientific breakthroughs into commercial applications. His primary research on the digital transformation of university-industry collaborations (Flowers & Roadman, 2024) was presented at the R&D Management Conference in Stockholm and is the empirical foundation for Helikon Labs' approach. The Helikon Method is the working synthesis of his operator experience and that research.
He writes about partnership management, commercialization, and the economics of university research on the Research Blog.

How we operate
Four principles that shape every engagement
These are the values guiding Helikon Labs itself: how we show up for customers and collaborators. Distinct from MUSE, the framework the platform uses for managing partnership lifecycles.
Ethical standards
Commitment to the highest ethical standards in every decision, partnership, and deployment.
Stakeholder voice
Active stakeholder involvement in decision-making, not token consultation after the fact.
Transparency
Clear, inspectable processes from pricing and IP terms to platform data handling.
Accountability
Psychological safety paired with process accountability. People can speak up and expect follow-through.
