ORCID
Researchers may add their ORCID iD (the 16-digit identifier) to their Helikon Labs profile. When you provide one, we display it as a link to your public ORCID record at orcid.org, shown as you entered it. Publication data associated with an ORCID iD is sourced from OpenAlex (see below), which releases its index under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) Public Domain Dedication; we do not read it from the ORCID API. Helikon Labs is not an ORCID member organization and does not currently integrate the ORCID API.
ORCID™, the ORCID logo, and the iD logo are trademarks of ORCID, Inc.
Use of the ORCID name or logo in Helikon Labs materials does not imply ORCID’s endorsement, sponsorship, or affiliation with Helikon Labs. For ORCID’s own brand and display guidelines, see info.orcid.org/brand-guidelines.
OpenAlex
Publication and citation metadata displayed on researcher profiles is sourced from OpenAlex, an open index of scholarly works maintained by OurResearch. The OpenAlex dataset is released under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) Public Domain Dedication and does not require attribution. We credit it here for transparency about where the numbers come from. See openalex.org.
Research Organization Registry (ROR)
Institution records (name, location, relationship graph) are sourced from the Research Organization Registry. ROR identifiers and metadata are dedicated to the public domain under the CC0 license and do not require attribution. Credit here is transparency about the registry we rely on for institution disambiguation. See ror.org.
USPTO and PatentsView
Patent records displayed on researcher profiles and in Discover search come from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), by way of the PatentsView research database. USPTO data is a work of the United States Government and is in the public domain. Credit here is transparency about the source. See data.uspto.gov.
Crossref
DOI resolution metadata (linking a publication’s DOI to its bibliographic record) comes from Crossref’s public API. Crossref makes this metadata openly available for reuse without restriction. Credit here is transparency about the resolver we rely on. See crossref.org.
U.S. government data sources
Research-funding data displayed on the platform (grants, awards, and federal funding opportunities) is drawn from several U.S. government sources: NIH RePORTER, the National Science Foundation (NSF) awards database, Grants.gov, the SBIR/STTR program database, and USAspending.gov. These datasets are works of the United States Government and are in the public domain. Credit here is transparency about where the funding numbers come from. See reporter.nih.gov, nsf.gov/awardsearch, grants.gov, sbir.gov, and usaspending.gov.
Wikidata
Entity enrichment data (supplementary facts about institutions and organizations, such as identifiers and relationships) comes from Wikidata. Wikidata’s structured data is released under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) Public Domain Dedication and does not require attribution. Credit here is transparency about the source. See wikidata.org.
Wikimedia Commons
Institution imagery (campus photos and institution logos) may be sourced from Wikimedia Commons. Unlike the CC0 datasets above, individual files on Commons carry their own licenses (public domain, Creative Commons variants, or other free licenses), and we rely on the license attached to each file. Institution logos are used nominatively: to identify the institutions they represent, not to suggest endorsement. If you administer an image we display and believe our use is inconsistent with its license, contact us through the process on our DMCA and copyright policy page. See commons.wikimedia.org.
Non-endorsement
References to ORCID, OpenAlex, ROR, USPTO, PatentsView, Crossref, NIH, NSF, Grants.gov, SBIR/STTR, USAspending, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, and any other third-party source on this site are descriptive: we name these sources so users understand where our data comes from. No endorsement, sponsorship, or affiliation with Helikon Labs is implied or should be inferred.
